Living Labs

How do communities co-create change from within?

The Living Labs are participatory spaces for social innovation embedded within each partner university. They mark the project’s move from diagnosis to action — taking what the Beyond Gender Academy and Mapping Equality reveal, and co-designing, prototyping and testing real solutions to gender-inequality challenges in everyday university life.

Three phases of action

01

Design & map

Student driving groups co-design the lab, define protocols and map the local ecosystem of challenges, stakeholders and potential allies. Transparency, horizontality and social inclusion guide every decision.

02

Explore & co-create

The driving group engages the community through interviews, focus groups and co-creation sessions. Using challenge-based, participatory methods, the group prioritises the most viable, promising solutions and pilots them — inside and outside the university.

03

Test & sustain

Pilot results are shared with the community to gather feedback and measure impact. Each lab produces an Action Plan and a Sustainability Plan so the lab, its projects and its culture of change endure well beyond the project.

Living Labs in our universities

Three Living Labs ran across the consortium, each tackling challenges its own community identified. Read the cross-campus findings and prototypes in the Impact Report.
